Importance of Grades when Applying to Universities in Canada for an Undergraduate Degree
If you wish to study at a university abroad, you will need to submit your high school grades with the application. But do you need to have decent grades? Absolutely yes! To get accepted at a top-ranking university, you will need to have really good grades as they are a form of metric that gauge your performance.
Importance of Grades
For admission to universities in Canada, academics are the most important and common form of assessment. When it comes to grades, universities will require you to submit:
- 10th and 11th grade final marksheets
- 12th grade predicted scores Â
So make sure that you maintain good grades in these 3 years of high school. The definition of good grades varies from university to university. We would recommend you maintain a range between 85-95% for admission into most of the top universities in Canada.
Don’t worry if your grades don’t fall in the higher range, because most universities also accept applicants who have a rising graph. For example, if a student scored an 80% in grade 10, an 85% in grade 11, followed by a 90% or above as their 12th grade predicted score, they should be okay.Â
Course wise grade requirements
When it comes to the applications for certain courses, having studied and scored well in specific subjects matter more than others. For instance, if you want to study Architecture at the University of Waterloo, it is required that you have studied Mathematics, Physics and English in addition to other subjects. The minimum grades for them are 70% in Math and Physics, and 75% in English. On the other hand, if you want to study Computer Science, you are required to have studied Math and English in addition to other subjects, with a minimum grade of 90% each. Therefore, make sure you look out for specific degree requirements and aim to fulfil them as needed.Â
Conditional Acceptance Offers
Most offers of admission have conditions that need to be met by a certain deadline. Conditions could include achieving a minimum final grade in a required course, submitting final transcripts, sending English language requirements, and more.
Universities have the right to revoke your admission if you do not fulfil the set conditions. So, make sure that you complete all requirements after receiving a conditional offer.Â
